Stahl-Eisen Testing Guidelines

Stahl-Eisen Testing Guidelines (Stahl-Eisen-Prüfblätter SEP) provide information on the proper performance of testing procedures for the determination of specific material properties. The task of these guidelines is to standardize the testing conditions to enable the comparability of the test results prior to the actual standardization of a testing method. This enables or facilitates the agreement on processing properties and/or properties of use and the exchange of related experience. The Guidelines include the findings and experience of steel producers, steel users as well as technical control boards. They are used to document the experience gained during material tests. If a certain testing method proves generally successful, the information compiled in the Guidelines is used as a basis for its standardization.
In addition to Testing Guidelines on the determination of the properties and microstructural characteristics of metallic materials, there is a series of Testing Guidelines for non-metallic materials, such as ores, recycled and residual materials.

Stahl-Eisen Operating Guidelines

Stahl-Eisen Operating Guidelines (Stahl-Eisen-Betriebsblätter SEB) define the specific requirements of the steel industry with a view to standardizing, and thereby ensuring utmost economy and safety in the design, construction, assembly and maintenance of steelmaking facilities. In addition to the definition of dimensions, materials and calculation procedures, they also include binding rules for purchasing, supplying and quality assurance processes. Quotations from the Guidelines qualify as contract items.

Steel Application Lists

Stahl-Eisen Materials Guidelines (Stahl-Eisen-Werkstoffblätter SEW) are highly appreciated as a means to pre-standardize the properties of steels prior to the actual standardization process. The Guidelines are based on both the steelmakers’ experience and knowledge of steel properties and the steel users’ experience and demands on properties of use. The Guidelines provide descriptions of property profiles for those steel grades that are not yet ready to be standardized. These descriptions are to enable a wider use of these steels and the accumulation of experience gained in their production, delivery and application. There are also a number of Materials Guidelines describing the properties of ceramic refractory materials.
The Steel Application Lists facilitate – based on currently available knowledge - the selection of the most useful steel grades for specific shaping tools.
Important notice: Stahl-Eisen List, 10th edition, (1999) contains a list of all steel grades standardized by the ECISS, including the steel names and material numbers according to EN 10027-1 and EN 10027-2 as well as CEN Report 10260. Partly also the nomenclature used in older editions of the "Stahl-Eisen Materials Guidelines" and "Stahl-Eisen Terms of Delivery" are given.
